I am about to use Shane's fret slotting blade and wanted to get advice on how deep to go for a 1/4" FB and a fret with a tang height of .073". I'm thinking about .110-.120" but want to confirm before going live. TIA |

That sounds about right JJ, you just want to allow enough room for crowning the fingerboard and then levelling the fretboard after it is on the neck and before the frets. |

I figure that a re-level and refret will be need in the life of the guitar so I slot to .100"-.105" deep if my tangs are .055". this may be deeper than needed but leaves some room for a re-level. |

Steve...Thanks for the link...I checked this out earlier but wanted to get more feedback. That, plus I need the posts to get to BRW status before 2008. ![]() Thanks, John...I'm trying to find the right depth so I don't have to tweak the slots with a handsaw. Even with the serviced boards I've used in the past I always seem to have to do that final 2 to 5 passes. Unfortunately, I have no more serviced FB's to see what their slot depth was. I'll go to .120" and see what happens after final radiusing. |

Thanks, Michael...looks like .120" should be in the ballpark for a .073" tang using your rationale. |

That was actually a joke! I finished the board but still had to take a few light swipes to get it just right. Bottom line...it worked flawlessly. Thanks Shane for getting these blades...they're very nicely made. |
